Has anyone here ever gone to anger management classes?

Some of my friends and acquaintances have told me that I really need to go because I explode on contact pretty much. I don’t think that I have an anger problem, I am just not as pleasant as I was before certain things happened in my life. If I do decide to take their advice, what can I look forward to happening there?

Assertiveness training was very useful for me. I have learned how to think independently about relations and relational situations, I found out about the lack of options I give myself. I learned my human rights and exercised behaviors to get out of conflictual situations and verbal abuse.
It’s like a “mental karate”. We did lots of role-plays using techniques that lead to assertiveness, win-win situations.
An emotional intelligence course helped me a lot to. I am more consciouss about my feelings as they are reactions to my interpretation of what happens here and now. Now I spot my reaction early. In the past I used to get very angry and didn’t know where it has started.
I do not agry with cultures that say “You got a lot of anger and you HAVE to express it in order to get rid of it”. However, they give some results.

I haven’t been a student of an anger management class, but I have taught one.
My anger management class was mostly educational, so there was lecturing and discussion. I did ask people for examples from their life during the discussion. But for the most part, it wasn’t a touchy, feely, group therapy type of experience.
Everyone has their own curriculum for anger management, so I’ll just tell you what we did in my class.
We taught accountability (that you are responsible for your own anger). We helped members understand what leads up to anger, how they react to those situations, and how to understand the consequences. We talked about anger in different settings, such as at work, in a relationship, and with kids. Then we talked about other things you can do when you are upset other than “exploding.”
Now, keep in mind that everyone in my class was court-ordered to be there, but 10 out of 11 reported a significant decrease in anger and were able to understand their emotions better.

Never taken one, but I’ve taught them for years. You’ll learn how to communicate better; different ways to manage your anger … and lots more. Most clients I’ve talked to have reported their lives being better after the anger management class.
BTW, I’ve always hated the phrase “anger management.” … it misses the point.

Do not go to anger management classes because someone told you to unless you really want to. You can try going to some singles groups. I really know there is a lady out their for you, that special someone! I wish you all the luck and I hope things get better for you!
